FAQs

Can our children attend a plaster party with us?

Children are welcome, as long as they are well attended, we do have animals and electric fences, so can not have children wandering around on their own. We've had volunteers come with babies on their backs, and kids ages 6-12 usually love to help! This is a wonderful formative experience for younguns!. There is also a shady covered deck that they can hang out on, we recommend that you bring an activity for them.

Can we bring our dog to the farmstead?

I’m sorry, but we can not welcome dogs or any other pets as we have an old dog who isn't super welcoming, and we have free range chickens who do not appreciate being chased. thanks for understanding. :)

Can we spend the night in order to help out both days?

Yes, we have plenty of space for camping, just be sure to let us know in advance.

Any other rules of the farmstead?

This is a smoke-free and alcohol-free space. If you must smoke, we ask that you please do so outside of the front gate or down the driveway.

What should we wear to a plaster party?

wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty, a hat to keep sun off your face, and rubber boots if you have them.

Do I need to bring gloves?

when applying the 2nd coat of earthen plaster to the walls, you can use bare hands or nitrile-coated garden gloves. When applying the 3rd/Final coat, you'll use a trowel. We have a couple of extra pairs of gloves, but if you know that you will want to use gloves, please plan to bring your own.

What types of activities are involved in a plaster party?

There are several stations that people usually rotate through:

  • sifting

  • mixing / stomping

  • applying to wall

  • smoothing/ polishing

  • break time- tea on the porch

We encourage everyone to work at their own pace, take breaks as often as needed, and skip any duties that do not suit their needs.
